About Helen:

Growing up, I often played the role of confidant to my friends.  This was a role that came naturally to me and I soon discovered I wanted to apply this role to a future career as a therapist.  With this goal in mind, I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from UCLA.  I later entered graduate school at California State University of Long Beach and completed a Master’s of Science in Counseling with an Option in Marriage and Family Therapy.  I currently work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

I have worked for several non-profit mental health organizations.  In each setting, my clients ranged in age from 4 years old through adulthood and I utilized individual, couples, and/or family therapy depending on the need of the client.  I have experience working with clients facing a variety of challenges including depression, grief and loss, anxiety, partner issues, communication issues, adjustment challenges, parenting issues, attention-deficit-hyperactivity (ADHD), and disruptive behavior/anger issues.  In addition, I have a specific focus and interest in working with individuals and couples experiencing infertility challenges.

My genuine desire to help others, combined with my professional training and experience, allows me to develop positive, trusting relationships with my clients.  I believe each individual is unique and I adapt treatment to fit the specific needs of each client.  This process is about you, so I use an eclectic approach and use tools from various theoretical models to best address your presenting concerns.

Change is not always easy, but often it is the integral piece of the puzzle that allows the other pieces to fit into place.  I wholeheartedly believe in the benefits of therapy and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
